Get Well Soon

I made this electronic greeting for Brendan, who was at the mercy of a stomach bug. I created it with dimensions that would display nicely on the iphone.

Greeting Card Display and Lots of Lace

To make a display for my greeting cards, I loosely followed the tutorial on justsomethingimade.com. I took a sturdy cardboard box from work and with the intention of fitting four 4" x 12" drawer organizers in it (yay, Dollar Tree!), and began cutting. Then it looked like this:
I made "steps" by covering a shoe box in brown paper, and putting brown-paper-wrapped cardboard slats in front and on top of that box. Then I covered the sides with brown paper (a big project since I'm not good with math/geometry/being smart). I put the drawer organizers in place, and filled it with cards and now it looks like this:
Waa-hoo! Not bad. The seams show, but I'll think of something.

In other crafty news, I'm working on some wedding cards, here is an exciting preview:

Finally, I found these great plastic tablecloths at Christmas Tree Shops for $1 (I think, $2 tops). They are clear with a silver lace pattern. So pretty for a throw-away! To see how it would look, I draped it over a plain white paper tablecloth (also from Christmas Tree Shops). Pretty cute. I think for the craft fair, we'll try to use real linen, but if it comes down to this or buying something new, I'm all for this!

Speaking of lace, I found this great lace-look gift wrap at the BRAND NEW DOLLAR TREE THAT JUST OPENED WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE FROM MY PLACE!!

Glitter!!

So this little bugger is my newest card. I would love to perfect it, but man, glitter is a pain in the butt. It's kind of funny, actually, to get mad/frustrated at the messiness of glitter, because you're all sparkly. Anyway, this uses double-sided tape. The tape doesn't extend far enough off the page on the top and bottom, so that is one obvious fix for next time. But next time will be an assembly line of cards, all done outside on a non-windy day. For sure.

General Birthday Cards

So I needed to up my stock of general birthday cards. I wanted to vary them a bit.

The first is whimsically text-heavy with mixed fonts. The white was added by hand, giving each one a slightly different look. Though I don't want the white part to be 100% perfect, I do thinks the lines on this one were a little sloppy, so I'll make cleaner lines next time.
4.25 x 5.5 in, side fold, 65lb brown kraft card stock, "I sincerely hope you have the best birthday ever" printed, highlighted with a white gel pen.

Next is another mixed font card with candle embellishments. Cutting out little flames isn't as bad as you'd think.

4.25 x 5.5 in, top fold, 110lb white card stock, "birthdays are for wishes" with card stock candles, hand-drawn wicks, and card stock flames, glued with Aleene's Tacky Glue.

In the interest in mixing embellishment with printed text, I printed a birthday banner onto card stock and affixed it to the card. Not quite there yet - maybe I need better paper with texture or dimension. But it's a start!
4.25 x 5.5 in, top fold, 110lb white card stock, "happy birthday to you" with card stock "birthday" banner on 65lb card stock and a super-thin spread of tacky glue.

This next guy was inspired by these adorable stickers on clearance at Michael's:

I felt a little weird about just sticking him onto a card and calling it my own, so I used him as inspiration. I mocked up my own boxy robot and cut out the various parts from shimmery silver card stock. I printed the card with the message and joining lines (arms/legs/balloon string) and glued the boxes on top. The eyes were a pain to do symmetrically, so I think I will try good ol' googly eyes in the future. I think he's still pretty charming.

4.25 x 5.5 in, side fold, 110lb white card stock, "happy birthday" with card stock robot parts and balloon.

Lucky Duck!

Here is a cute mother's day card with simple embellishments:
8.5 x 4 in, 110lb card stock, front reads: "I sure am a lucky duck to have a mom as sweet as you!" with a yellow card stock duck and blue card stock water cut with wavy-edge scissors, attached with Zots. Inside reads: "Happy Mother's Day!"

Cards for Little Ones

These cards are actually the ones I started with for the craft fair. They are really sweet but, man, are they labor-intensive. Some day, if I'm making oodles of money, maybe I'll invest in a Cricut. For now, I will regard my card stock-cutting as therapeutic (which it kind of is).

First up: elephant! He's really excited to present his balloon bouquet.
8.5 x 4 in, 110lb card stock, "turning one is tons of fun!" printed with card stock elephant and orange balloons attached with Zots. Inside reads: "Happy Birthday!"

Next up: giraffe! He's not really sure what to do with himself. But I imagine part of his insecurity stems from being much taller than everyone else. I cut out the giraffe in yellow and the little textured pieces in brown and glued them on one by one. Phew.
8.5 x 4 in, 110lb card stock, "Birthdays are BIG fun!" printed with card stock giraffe attached with Zots. Inside reads: "Happy Birthday!"

Finally: turtle! This lil' guy is late to the party - typical. But it's understandable since he's carrying all of those gifts. We forgive you, turtle.
8.5 x 4 in, 110lb card stock, "Sorry I'm late!" printed with card stock turtle (his pattern drawn with pen) and card stock gifts attached with Zots. Inside reads: "Happy Belated Birthday!"
